BIWA Cottage Watch

As a follow up to our previous correspondence, and positive feedback we continue to receive, we are pleased to be able to provide all of our BIWA members a basic Cottage Watch program beginning this fall. Under the leadership of Mike Haswell, and running from Mid October to Mid May,  we will be offering our members the services outlined below on a weekly basis:

  • A visual inspection of your cottage, boathouse, and any other out buildings you may have
  • A check on your propane tank to monitor the levels
  • A "green light" check on your generator
  • An extra visual inspection after storms to check for damage and make sure your generator is running

Moving forward, this service will be included in your annual dues, which  we estimate based on the time requirements (including winter access and travel) will result in the service costing approximately $300 annually/member (I.e. $10 per week, $40 per month during the inspection period).

Please click on the button below for more details on the program. If anyone wishes to leave keys or codes with Michael Haswell, or provide special instructions or details, please contact him directly right away, contact information is below.

False Fire Alarm Prevention

We want to remind all of our island residents of the ways that you can prevent false fire alarms at your cottage. Monitored alarm systems should receive regular maintenance and testing to ensure they are functioning properly. False Fire Alarms can be subject to charges if the fire department determines that the occurance was preventable. Click on the button below for a full brochure on False Fire Alarm Prevention.

Exercising/Biking on the Ring Road

Just a reminder to all BIWA members, that the golf course and cart paths are for golfers only. Residents may not use the golf course for biking, jogging, or any type of exercising; all of those activities must be confined to the Ring Road.

Superior Propane Fall Fill-Ups

Please remember to call Superior Propane to have your tank filled for the fall/winter. Superior tries their best to come at the end of October and do as many cottages as possible over three or four days to help with barge costs.

Mike Cunnington Update

Mike will be moving on from Bigwin Island after Sept 15th. He will be passing along his cottage maintenance duties to Mike Haswell and Rick Lloyd.
Please let Mike Haswell know if you have any outstanding jobs that will need attention. We wish Mike Cunnington all the best in his future!

Mike Haswell can be reached at or 705-349-1492

Cart Winterizing

It is that time of year again! Cart winterizing is an important part of cart maintenance, this year we will not be storing any carts at the clubhouse or in the back shop. We need to keep this area organized and clear of carts during the off season. Please contact Tom if you are interested in having this service done, he will be on the island until November 5th, and service must be booked by October 20th to make sure that Tom will be able to fully winterize your cart.

He can be reached at:  or 705-783-9669

Shuttle Service in the Fall

Shuttle service will be switching to fall hours, after we close on October 9th. The schedule is below, it is also important to please call ahead to Jim Baumken if you know your arrival time (especially when arriving at night) to the island. It helps our staff to be prepared for your arrival and pass along optimal service to our members.
Jim can be reached at: 705-783-1659

Fall Shuttle Hours - Start Oct 10th
Sunday to Thursday - 9 AM to 5 PM
Friday and Saturday - 9 AM to 9 PM

  • Garbage pick-up will continue on Tuesdays and run until October 31st.  After that you may still use the dumpsters on the runway for garbage disposal

BIWA Personal Barge Trip

To help facilitate your fall / winter transition at the cottage, we would like to provide our BIWA cottagers a special service on the barge this fall, once the golf course is closed.  We are pleased to offer one complementary round trip on the barge, with your personal vehicle.  This will allow you to more easily stock up for the winter or transfer personal items back to your home for the winter.

It is important that you book this ahead of time with Michael Haswell (705-349-1492) and that you use a vehicle the is appropriate for loading on the barge and traveling on the paths properly.
