Bigwin Island Press Release

MUSKOKA, ONTARIO (September 26, 2019): Bigwin Island Golf Club, one of the top ranked private clubs in Canada, has entered into a management contract with Port Cunnington Lodge that will see Bigwin take over day-to-day management of the historic lodge property effective November 1, 2019.

Port Cunnington Lodge has been a popular vacation spot on Lake of Bays for more than a century. Offering a variety of accommodation options and outdoor amenities, the Lodge property features spectacular beaches, waterfront docks and magnificent wooded areas. Guests can access Port Cunnington on the mainland or from Bigwin Island, which is just minutes away by boat.

The Lodge is also an ideal destination for corporate retreats and team building events with modern meeting spaces, hi-speed Wi-Fi and a serene and peaceful Muskoka environment. Hospitality options allow the Lodge to cater to groups of up to 85 guests and large groups may opt for exclusive use of the entire 22 acres at Port Cunnington.

Bigwin Island Golf Club is an exceptional golf experience, featuring an award-winning Doug Carrick designed golf course and historic clubhouse, exclusively reserved for its members and guests in July and August but available for public play in the Spring and Fall. This past Spring, Bigwin launched on-site stay and play lodging with the addition of three luxurious Club Cabins that can sleep up to six golfers each.

“The addition of Port Cunnington Lodge provides Bigwin with significantly increased lodging options that can be offered to golfers and corporate groups,” says Greg Gutowski, CEO of Bigwin Island Golf Club. “Our management group has extensive hospitality industry expertise and we look forward to building on the proud legacy that the Lodge has established over 129 years.”

Under Bigwin management, the Lodge will continue to cater to families looking for traditional week-long stays in the summer months and will provide exceptional accommodations in a unique setting for corporate groups and golfers desiring stay-and-play options in the shoulder seasons.

ABOUT BIGWIN ISLAND GOLF CLUB

Bigwin Island Golf Club traces its roots back to the original Bigwin Inn, which opened in 1920. Catering to affluent visitors from Toronto and the US Northeast, the resort opened a 9-hole golf course designed by Stanley Thompson in 1922. Inspired by the rugged Muskoka landscape and the original Thompson design, a new course fashioned by Doug Carrick was opened in 2001, as Bigwin evolved into an exclusive private club for members and guests. In 2019, Bigwin added the option of onsite stay and play lodging with the launch of three luxurious Club Cabins.
